History

Devi Vishwakumar is a 15-year-old Indian-American girl living in Sherman Oaks, California. Born to a loving family, her life takes a tragic turn when her father, Mohan Vishwakumar, unexpectedly passes away from a heart attack. His sudden death leaves a significant emotional void in Devi's life, which deeply affects her relationship with her mother, Nalini. Nalini, struggling with grief and the pressures of being both a mother and a professional, often places high expectations on Devi to succeed and make the family proud. Before the tragedy, Devi was a popular and confident teenager with a close-knit group of friends, but her father's death changes her deeply. She becomes withdrawn and erratic, channeling her grief through anger and self-destructive behavior. Despite her emotional struggles, Devi's sharp intellect and strong-willed personality help her maintain a good academic standing, though her personal life becomes more chaotic. In the midst of this, Devi finds herself caught between two worlds—her traditional Indian upbringing and the pressures of high school life in America.
